Development Associate

Reports to: Executive Director

Department: Development

Status: Part time (9:30am – 2:30pm for 4 days/week with occasional weekend and/or evening as needed, 25 hours/week)

Description

The Development Associate is responsible for the cultivation of new and existing donors and volunteers through a range of activities.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the cultivation of new and existing donors and volunteers including:

  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of the annual fundraising Gala and other events to educate the community about IHN’s mission and raise the majority of gifts and pledges from individual and corporate donors with potential matching options.
  • Support Executive Director on cultivation of foundations, grant writing, fundraising and cultivation of board members.
  • Ability to research, identify and write grant applications.
  • Development of Donor and Corporate relationships.
  • Database management – act as main user of Blackbaud database, ensuring that system enables IHN to keep detailed information on donors and volunteers, useful for cultivation efforts.
  • Will ensure that donations (cash &in kind) are accurately input and coded per affiliations, relationships,campaign tracking, etc.
  • Responsible for pulling lists for mailings and providing accurate and meaningful reports to share with appropriate parties. Reports should be structured tallow for intelligent decision-making and planning.

  • Provide training and materials for board members to make thank you calls and notes to donors.
  • Provide Accountant/Bookkeeper with regular Razors Edge report of gifts, payments, and pledges.
  • Cultivation Plan Development – assist Executive Director in authoring annual Cultivation Plan that targets distinct populations to increase development and retention of new donors and volunteers in accordance with Benevon model.
  • Marketing Communications – work with Executive Director to develop and execute segmented marketing communications encompassing mail, email, newsletter, website, and face-to-face interactions according to Cultivation Plan.
  • Website/Facebook/Instagram Page Maintenance – monitor website, Instagram, and Facebook Page for up-to-date content and usage (via reports). Update website with materials needed to keep website current.
  • Public Relations – ensure that IHN is covered in media by developing relationships with editors of print and online publications, community affiliates, etc. providing them with newsworthy information

Skills & Specialized Training Requirements

  • 5+ years working in development,marketing, nonprofit or communications
  • Excellent communication skills –written, verbal and presentation
  • Proficient in writing development materials, web layout, design skills, Constant Contact
  • Proficient in Razors Edge
  • Proficient in writing and editing
  • Grant writing experience and research skills
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse clients
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Interfaith Hospitality Network
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, RazorsEdge (Blackbaud) database, Constant Contact, Social Media sites including but not limited to Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram

Educational Requirments

B.A.: Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration or Business

  • Must have own transportation
